Sanitary Pad Project in Partnership with TAO
OTYO! (A Sigh of Relief) is excited to announce a new project in partnership with Trust for Africa’s Orphans (TAO).
TAO has been invested in sustainable, healthy futures for Ugandan orphans for 20 years, and has an ongoing and important project being carried out in the Oyam and Kole Districts of Northern Uganda. The project is titled “Innovative, Affordable and Reusable Sanitary Pads for poor rural school girls” (IASP). This project is producing affordable, reusable sanitary pads, which help keep impoverished girls in school, and is providing Health Education on reproduction and menstrual hygiene management. Many impoverished girls in Uganda miss up to 6 days of school each month because they lack access to proper menstruation products, and because of the cultural stigma persisting regarding menstruation.
OTYO! will support this ongoing work in northern Uganda, and facilitate the expansion of the TAO IASP project into West Nile (northern Uganda), and eventually into Kebisoni, Rukungiri District, where it will become part of the work we do at the Canon Eric and Faith Bugaari Community Centre. The project will provide girls in the community affordable, reusable pads, and information on safe use; ability to manage menstruation with dignity; improved attendance and retention in school; knowledge of reproductive health; and improved gender equality. Please read the additional information for this partnership and project on our website, and please donate to this and/or other projects. Even a little will have an impact. The youth of these communities need and appreciate your support.
